YCN... Pearl & Daisy Lowe for Peacocks... Photography & Adverts

Here are some photos I have found online of the Pearl Lowe ranges. Me and Chloe can use these images in our mock up poster ideas and to give us an idea of what this range is all about.

Pearl Lowe's range was even featured in Vogue.

There are different ranges in the Pearl and Daisy Lowe collections: children's wear; vintage womenswear; party wear & daisy lowe swimwear collection:

Me and Chloe like this photo as it shows mother and daughter, so appeals to both a younger and an older audience and shows that the brand is suitable for different ages.

These are some adverts, they don't contain a lot of information but show the pretty dresses.

YCN... Design Direction

These are some images showing the kind of direction we want to go in. Chloe found these topshop adverts and we both like the style of them, and will be including them on our design direction boards. I also want to put some screen shots of some of the websites I have looked at on the boards.

Things we like about them include:

These all look quite modern, and also we have noticed how a lot of the adverts for Topshop are type driven. This may not be the design direction we end up going in eventually, but for now it is a start for inspiring our designs.

I've found these designs to do with Urban Outfitters as they are also known for having a colourful, modern and young approach. They are appealing to the target audience. Again, they show how important type is to their designs, it is not just all about the photograph of the models / product.

Urban Outfitter's style over time has not been consistent, which may work for them, as they are known for showing the newest coolest things, however, we want all of our designs for Peacocks to be consistent. I would like to try creating some designs inspired by what we have found here.

Image... D&AD Brief... Rain

To help inspire my poster, I did the obvious and looked for some images of rain to get me thinking. These are some photographs from a google search.

I knew that I wouldn't be able to get a very good photograph of the rain in the little amount of time I have to make the poster, so I would probably end up illustrating the rain, so I researched how others had done this as it seems quite a difficult thing to do.

After finding these images, I then went back, and though about how my poster design could go beyond the obvious.

Image... D&AD Brief... Artist Research

To start with on this competition brief, I thought I would find out more about the artist who is giving the talk. This seemed to be a harder task than it should have been, with a very confusing website idea!

I had to google it to make sure I was on the right website and I found this information:

Here are some of the screen shots of some of the website designs I saw. There must be hundreds, and on some of them the links actually work and there is content such as videos. I'm not really sure how this actually gets them any business as these designs may be funny but theres not even a link to there actual website!

On the competition sheet we were given a link to another website which turns out to be their real website. While the designs are a lot nicer, the ideas behind them still seem to be a bit crazy!

They have produced lots of books, I'm not sure what the purpose is, but lots of nice, clean typography and photography mixed to make well designed books, however, for random subjects! I suppose the confusion is what makes people intrigued and these books seem more like collectors items rather than just useless objects.

Some real examples of their graphic design in advertisements:

Their work has a lot of humour in it and a good mix of typography and photography - but they seem to be the exact opposite of my style! It was interesting to find out more about the artist who is setting this brief, but I don't think his style will be influencing my image work.
