I found out about The Opte Project at the Life Online exhibition. It seeks to make an accurate representation of the extent of the internet through visual data. The images are not only useful and educational in teaching people about the internet but look beautiful, and are even shown at the Museum of Modern Art.
This is another internet mapping project. I think the results created are so interesting and could be used across a variety of products.
The above graphic was featured in Wired magazine in 1998.
It would be impossible to make something similar with accurate information so I don't know yet how I would use these images in my design practice. They could just inspire me to create patterns that look similar and are based on this theme.
