Good Is... Japan Research
As I will be including information about the next Jamboree in the information pack I am making, I have researched what information and designs are available already for the jamboree, however, I could only find a limited amount of material, as the Jamboree is still quite a long time away. To add to this, I have found out some information about Japan, as it was recommended in my crit that I include this in the information pack.
23rd World Scout Jamboree
Peace Programme
One-day off-site programme to Hiroshima will provide opportunity for all the participants to learn from the history of 1945. Participants will visit Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park including the museum.
Peace Memorial Ceremony
As 2015 is the 70th anniversary since the atomic bomb had been dropped, we are seeking possibility to some representative Scouts - possibly one from each NSOs - to attend the Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima.
Global Development Village (GDV)
GDV will be an on-site module programme, which tries to raise awareness over the global issues such as peace, environment, development, human rights and health among participants. As 23WSJ is held in Japan, GDV will focus on the disaster mitigation. We will ask for active involvement of the UN agencies, NGOs and NPOs. GDV programme will be distributed to the world for pre-event materials, as well as the part of the Join-in-Jamboree programme.
Exploring Nature
A full day module programme that will foster better understanding of the surrounding nature will also bring appreciation to the environment. This programme will be held in Yamaguchi City where the Kirara-hama is.
Cross Road of Culture (CRC)
CRC will be an activity to promote exchange of cultures, and learn respect to the cultures of own and the others.
Also in the CRC programme, we will try to have a programme aims to deepen the cultural understanding of Japan from traditional to pop culture among the participants.
City of Science (COS)
COS, which will be one-day programme in Kirara-hama, will deepen understanding of advances in science and technology and the benefits and problems associated with science. This programme provides a venue for learning about the development of fuel cells and other energy sources of the future, ecological problems, and robotics and automotive technologies.
Community Services
There will be a day for community services. Participants can compare their own community by seeing the other community. This programme would include practical implementation of the “Reaching Out” strategy in the local community. Participants will be able to experience real Japan by working with local people.
Water Activities
Water activities such as sailing, wind surfing, snorkeling, rafting and fishing will be carried out at lakes, rivers or the nearby coast.

Good is... Existing Product Research
Filofax Research
Primary photographs of fun faxes I had as a child. I'm very organised so loved these! I liked the activities too, and found these quite entertaining. There are lots of 'extras' in these fun faxes, they are more than a diary, and this is what I think will keep the guides who I am designing for interested. The content includes: puzzles, stickers, door hangers, bookmarks, posters, personal section and story lines. The age range of my audience is a little older though than the target audience of these fun faxes, so I have looked at filo faxes as well, to inspire a slightly more sophisticated design. It has also made me think about making my product even more useful, by including a pen holder, and storage pockets, and personal photo space.

Good is... Stock Research
After my tour at team print, I realised how important stock choices are for a project. I decided to start by looking at paper companies websites, as well as looking at stock examples, to decide which would be best for my project.
I found Lorenzo's huge collection of samples the most useful thing to look at, as getting a feel of the paper is as important on deciding on the right colour and shade. Its hard to choose paper over a website, when you can't feel the texture or feel the thickness. I have tried very hard to get hold of a sample book but most companies are unwilling to give these to students unfortunately!
The choices of paper available at college in the library and in digital print are a bit limiting, so in future, I'll think ahead, and order the paper I need in from the internet.

Good Is... Inspiring Relevant Designs
Continuing with my initial book research of girl guide designs, which can be seen here, I have found more relevant contextual references.
Letter Idea - johnsonbanks
Continuing with the theme of stamps and posting letters, I've found these interesting examples:
Letters shaped into things that can fly - relating to the postal theme
Interactive stamp design - stamps with sticker sets
Temporary post office - literally send a letter
Lovely Paper - Dawbis
These designs aren't for print, but I really like the way illustration has been mixed in with photography, something I would like to try in my own designs. They make what would otherwise be your standard christmas catalogue an elegant and interesting book. From Liberty.co.uk
