Subject: Dinosaurs in Religion

I'm not really sure if I believe dinosaurs were real or not. I am a Christian, but only really started to doubt their existence after studying creation in A level Philosophy of Religion. So its a subject matter I find interesting, along with things I mentioned, like pub dilemmas and say, whats on TV, I like talking about whether or not dinosaurs were real. With this research brief maybe I will come to a decision.

Its quite hard to know what is really true, but these facts are believed in Science.

• The story of their discovery began back in the 1820s, when Gideon Mantell, an English doctor, found some unusual teeth and bones in a quarry. He believed that he had found an entirely new group of reptiles.
• By 1841, about nine types of these different reptiles had been uncovered.
• Dr Richard Owen, coined the name “Dinosauria,” meaning “terrible lizard.”
• Some were as small as chickens, and others were even smaller. Some dinosaurs were very large, weighing in at an estimated 80 tons and standing 40 feet high. The average size of a dinosaur, however, was probably about that of a small horse.
• Creation scientists have a different idea to evolution scientists about when dinosaurs lived. They believe they have evidence from the Bible that dinosaurs must have lived within the past thousands of years.
• It is obvious that evolutionists don’t know how dinosaurs became extinct. The following is just a small list of theories:

Dinosaurs starved to death; they died from overeating; they were poisoned; they became blind from cataracts and could not reproduce; mammals ate their eggs. Other causes include volcanic dust, poisonous gases, comets, sunspots, meteorites, mass suicide, constipation, parasites, shrinking brain (and greater stupidity), slipped discs, changes in the composition of air, etc.

• The most complete skeleton of a Stegosaurus ever found has been dug up at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.  It had to be hauled out of the earth by an army helicopter. 
• Tracks left in the mud by dinosaurs provide clues as to how quickly they moved.  By measuring the distance between footprints, experts have worked out that some dinosaurs could have reached speeds up to 25 mph.
• Velociraptor was probably very fierce.  A fossil found in Utah, shows its claws may have been up to 15 inches in length--as long as a three-year-old child's arm.  These claws formed very effective hooks with which to hold prey.
